Roseville Human Rights Commission
Meeting Minutes -.October 13, 2009

Chair Singleton recognized the need for further review and scrutiny related to the
sponsorship issue; and opined that this was part of the HRC's development as a body and
its various events and activities.
Member Jaeger questioned the HRC's role in reviewing the employee handbook of each
group it worked with and whether the HRC simply needed to establish consistent
guidelines and/or criteria for itself.

Member Grefenberg clarified that it was not his intent to get Northwestern College to
change their policy, but he agreed that some messages sent by the HRC may be
inadvertently received or create negative reactions.

Member McKenzie expressed frustration that comments and actions of the HRC body
seemed to greatly and repeatedly upset Member Grefenberg; and sought suggestions from
Member Grefenberg on how best to get to a point of understanding of what specific
resolution he was seeking.

Member Grefenberg expressed his appreciation to Members McKenzie and Oftelie for
their personal and ongoing support of his involvement as a member of the HRC.

Announcements
Members expressed their excitement about the upcoming Forum.

Member Grefenberg distributed two additional handouts to members.

One was entitled, "I Love Southwest Roseville Neighborhoods!" and was a draft graphic
prepared by Haden Bowie a graduate student in community planning specializing in civic
engagement at the Center for Regional Affairs at the U of MN and a resident of
Roseville. Ms. Bowie was working with Mr. Grefenberg on the Southwest Area of
Roseville Monitor (SWARM), a community network devoted to neighborhood
empowerment on the formation of an association of SW Roseville neighborhoods.
Member Grefenberg advised that he would like to have Ms. Bowie work on projects with
the HRC.

The second bench handout distributed by Member Grefenberg was intended to provide a
background on homosexual/gay terminology.

VIII. Adjournment
Chair Singleton adjourned the meeting at approximately 8:12 p.m.
