.
Request for Council Action
Date: January 5,2004
Item Number: 4. (',,
Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section
Organiztional Business
Item Description:
City Council Liaison Assignments
Backround:
Traditionally, the Council has considered assigning certain Councilmembers to represent the
City Council before various external and internal boards and commissions. For example,
attached is a list of Council Liaisons for 2001 and 2000. (Attachment 1)
Currently, Councilmember Schroeder serves as the City Council's representative to the North
Suburban Cable Commission. In addition, the by-laws for the I-35W Corridor Coalition
designate the Mayors of the member cities to be that city's representative to the Coalition Board
unless a city chooses to designate some other representative. (The by-laws of the Roseville Fire
Relief Pension Board designate the Roseville Mayor as an ex-officio member of that Board.)
In addition, from time-to-time the Council has chosen to designate a Councilmember to follow
the work of certain citizen advisory commissions — such as the Parks and Recreation
Commission and the Planning Commission.
Alternatives:
L Modify or Affirm the current Council Liaison assignments.
2. Suggestion: As a start, I suggest ---
a. the Mayor will serve as the city's representative to the I-35W Corridor Coalition
and as an ex-officio member of the Fire Relief Pension Board,
b. The Council would re-appoint Councilmember Schroeder to the North Suburban
Cable Commission Board;
c. Councilmember Maschka would help with the City's legislative program,
including a Tax Increment Financing bill for Twin Lakes;
d. Councilmember Kough would help with the City's clean-up initiative;
