Application for City Council Vacancy <br />Amy I�1� <br />Page 1 of2 <br />Work Experience: <br />I am an attorney and college professor. Currently, I practice law at Briol & Associates, PLLC, <br />specializingin securities and business litigation. I taught most recently as an adjunctprofessor at <br />Macalester College, and have previously been on the faculty at Winona State University and <br />Cornell College. <br />Education: <br />Columbia Heights High School, Class of 1977 <br />Macalester College, B.A. summa c�un luude 1981 (Economics and Political Science) <br />Harvard Law School, J.D. c�nn luude 1984 <br />University of Minnesota, Ph.D. 1995 (Philosophy) <br />Civic and Volunteer Activities: <br />I was appointed to the Roseville Ethics Commission in 2002. I attend city council meetings <br />often, and have been active on a variety of issues recently before the council (includingthe <br />primary election, recycling, and development issues). I helped organize my neighbors in the <br />Twin Lakes neighborhood in response to the retail developmentplan proposed last summer, and <br />I continue to be active on Twin Lakes issues. My civic activism inspired me to n� for the <br />Roseville city council in 2003. <br />I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Minneapolis Mediation Program, a non-profit <br />corporationproviding community mediation and dispute resolution services in Minneapolis and <br />surrounding suburbs. My past community activities include volunteer legal assistanceprograms, <br />and work with the Hmong community in �t, Paul. I have also volunteered at the Wildlife <br />Rehabilitation Center. <br />Reasons for Wantin� to Serve on the Roseville City Council: <br />I want to be on the Roseville city council to serve the people of Roseville, and help build a <br />greater sense of community. I am dedicated to protecting the public interest, and will work to <br />make sure our government is open, responsive and accountable. I am especially interested in <br />encouraging and increasing opportunities for citizen participation, and promoting civil public <br />discussion on important issues. I am strongly committedto protecting Roseville's �1 <br />environment, and maintainingthe amenities and city services we need for livable neighborhoods. <br />As a fist-tier suburb in a changing urban environment, Roseville needs to engage in careful, <br />long-range planning to keep both our business and residential communities strong and healthy. <br />Please state vour view of the role of the CitY Council: <br />The city council should work for the people of Roseville, and always strive to do what is in the <br />city's best interests. Since the city council representsthe people, the council has an obligation to <br />allow citizens to be heard on issues of public concern, and to treat citizens and their viewpoints <br />
