City Council Study Session — O1/12/04
DRAFT Minutes - Page 8
the true cost of inspections.
Mayor Klausing requested supporting data from staff's research.
Mr. Loftus advised that he did not have the research information
compiled in a list, and had received much of it through state and
regional re meetings with other entities.
Councilmember Maschka questioned whether that comparison
information would be beneficial on other fee schedule revisions
as well.
Councilmember Schroeder noted that the availability of that
informationwould be beneficial for justification to the public.
Mayor Klausing noted that he was of the impression that the
Council had already provided direction to staff to bring back
comparison information.
Councilmember Schroeder noted that he was not necessarily
looking for comparison information from cities of similar size,
but also from neighboring communities in the immediate area.
Mayor Klausing noted that, given current budget constraints, it
was prudent for government to look more closely at services
provided, and define those that were not feasible to apportion
specifically and those that should be specifically apportioned to
those using the services.
Further discussion included the costs defined by the Finance
Department and incorporated into the recommended fees by the
Fire Department; expansion of the comparison area to
accommodate mall operations; the need for staff and Council to
review regulatory fees by specific area, rather than overall at one
time, due to the numerous fees involved, and staff time required
for research and background information to the Council; and
implementation of revised fees by resolution, no matter when
reviewed, on an annual basis, preferably January 1 of each year.
John Kysylyczyn, 3083 Victoria Street N
Related to a previous Council discussion regarding identification
