The City of Roseville owns the property. Management is the responsibility of the City Park and <br />Recreation Division. Roseville understands the importance of natural areas in an urbanized <br />setting and the critical habitat they provide, as well as the role they play in providing park <br />visitors outstanding opportunities to experience natural areas. Roseville is dedicated to being <br />wise stewards of these resources and is actively engaged in maintaining or improving the quality <br />of natural areas in its park system. Jeff Evenson is the staff person responsible for overseeing <br />natural resource management activities within Roseville Parks. His contact information is listed <br />at the top of this grant application packet. <br />B. Timeliness <br />Please see the proposed schedule in the attached Work Plan. The outlined work is anticipated to <br />be complete by December 2004, and will be completed no later than June 2005. <br />C. Reasonable Cost <br />Please see the attached budget exhibit. <br />D. Expertise of the ImplementingEntity <br />Roseville Parks and Recreation has been actively engaged in stewarding natural areas on city <br />park property since the 1970's. Efforts in the last 10 years have focused on restoring the <br />integrity of natural areas through the control of invasive/nonnative shrubs, the application of <br />prescribed fire to maintain prairies, restoring shoreline habitat, environmental education, and <br />others. <br />Jeff Evenson, Park Proj ect Coordinator will serve as the city's proj ect manager. Jeff is a <br />Landscape Architect and has been actively involved in coordinating and conducting natural <br />resource management in Roseville Parks, including seeding, prescribed burning, planting, <br />invasive brush removal, and others. <br />The city also intends to utilize staff from Bonestroo Natural Resources to guide sequencing, <br />plant selection, and on-the-ground activities for this project. Paul Bockenstedt will serve as the <br />primary staff person from Bonestroo for this project. Paul has worked in inventorying and <br />managing natural areas in the Upper Midwest since 1983. Before joining the Natural Resources <br />Team at Bonestroo in 1997, Paul worked for the MN DNR as a State Park Resource Specialist <br />and on a Scientific and Natural Area restoration crew. <br />The City of Roseville and Bonestroo have teamed to successfully complete restoration projects <br />in other Roseville Parks including lakeshore and prairie/savanna restorations at Bennett Lake in <br />Central Park. <br />III.Other Program Goals (Secondary Criteria) <br />A. Community Support and Collaboration. <br />Protection and restoration of natural areas within city parks is supported by the Mayor and City <br />Council of Roseville, the Park & Recreation staff, and residents. <br />When Reservoir Woods was acquired in 1997, neighborhood task forces and Park and <br />Recreation planners expressed the wish that Reservoir Woods remain pristine.
