REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 3/29/04 ITEM NO.: 3,g I�ep�rl #�lppr�+�al: Manag�r Reviewed: Agenda Section: � ' �� i i Item Description: Award Bid for 2004 Contract B Background: At the January 26,2004 meeting the City Council approved the 2004 Public Works Work Plan. All of the work included in 2004 Contract B was discussed at that meeting, with the exception of the Victoria Street sanitary sewer repairs (SS-03-14: N18). In Mid- February Ramsey County notified the City that they would be resurfacing Victoria Street between County Road C and County Road D. As is our practice with all constructionprojects, Staff reviewed the condition of the City utilities within the project limits. We determined that a substantial portion of the sanitary sewer required replacement. We have included the Victoria Street sanitary sewer replacement as a part of this year's Contract B. The 2004 Contract B consists mainly of underground utility reconstruction projects. Bids were solicited during the month of March. The bids were opened on Friday, March 19,2003. Based on the bids received, staff recommends awarding the following work: �T��- I� E�r�i ��e Neighborhood 18: Valley Park, east side of Avon St, south of Improvements Coun Road D Neighborhood 56: Sherrenl Dellwood St. intersection ST�D2-�D� I�]at� C�nter Neighborhood 36: Nature Center southeast of Dale St. and Storm Sewer Im�rovement County Road C SS-03-14 Sanit Sewer Nei hborhood 18: Easement south of Millwood Ave. Re�airs Nei hborhood 73: Easement south of McCarron St. Neighborhood 18: Victoria Street, between County Road D and Millwood Ave. Policy objectives: Based on past practice, the City Council has awarded the contract to the lowest responsiblebidder. In the case of 2004 Contract B, the lowest bidder is Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc., of Ramsey, Minnesota.
