A safety <br />village that is not transportable may be considered construction, and therefore, not <br />eligible. Sprinkler systems for residential or commercial uses are not eligible unless the <br />installation is specifically implemented as a critical element in a demonstration or <br />awareness proj ect. Firearms are also not eligible. <br />Firefi,_�g Vehicle Acauisition Pro,_�. <br />DHS may make grants for acquiring new firefighting vehicles, used fire <br />apparatus, or refurbished apparatus. The funds may also be used to refurbish a vehicle <br />the department currently owns. New vehicles purchased with AFG program funds must <br />be compliant with current NFPA 1901 or 1906 standards. Used apparatus must be <br />compliant with NFPA 1901 or 1906 standards for the year the vehicle was manufactured. <br />Refurbished apparatus must meet NFPA 1912 standards. Applicants may apply for only <br />one vehicle per year under this program. Requests for more than one vehicle will be <br />deemed ineligible. Applicants that have been awarded vehicle grants from the AFG <br />program in previous years are not eligible for a vehicle award in this program year. <br />Eligible expenses under this program would include the cost of the vehicle and <br />associated equipment necessary to conform to applicable national standards (NFPA 1��1 <br />or 1906). New, used, or refurbishedvehicles are eligible; however, any used or <br />refurbished vehicles must conform to the national standards that were in effect the year <br />the vehicle was manufactured. An allowance for transportation to inspect a vehicle under <br />consideration or during a vehicle's production would be eligible if reasonable and <br />justified in the grant proposal.
