Please state your reason for wanting to serve on the Commission: The City of Roseville has a
lot of opportunities that will be facing it in the next several years in order to maintain and
improve it's excellent quality of life for it's residents. I believe those opportunities include:
1, Attracting young families to the area. As a result of Roseville's excellent quality of
life and the services provided by the city, people don't leave the city. They raise their
families here, and then retire here as well. This is a real credit to the city. That being
said, Roseville needs to attract families with young school age children to the area. As
well as being good for the School District, these families are consumers. They use the
city's parks, they participate in the city's activities, and they spend their money in the
city.
2. Finding viable housing options for our seniors. In conjunction with # 1 above, one
opportunity that we have is to develop good alternative housing options for our seniors to
allow them to stay in the community. As was proven by the passing of the School
Districts Referendum, our senior population is very supportive of initiatives that are good
for the community.
3. The development of now-defunct and underutilized areas. One example of this is the
Twin Lakes Project. This area could bring a needed source of extra revenues to the city
through the mix of retail, commercial, and residential development being discussed in the
Twin Lakes Task Force. I believe that through exploration other areas and sources of
revenue could be found within the city.
4. Revitalization of the WWII housing stock, I think this goes hand in hand with the
above two items. By updating our 1950 ramblers we can attract more families and
increase the tax base for the city. One such project is the rambler renovations that offered
some incentives for people to add on to their ramblers. A program like this makes sense
for our city.
These opportunities are exciting for Roseville and the residents ofthe City. As a young
homeowner with young children who has lived in Roseville for 9 years, I am committed to the
City. I am planning on raising my family here and I want to be a part of the planning for the
future.
What is your view of the role of this Commission? I believe the role of the commission is to
be a voice-piece for the community directly to the city council. The Planning Commission plays
an important role in offering the residents of Roseville a forum in which to discuss city issues
more in depth and in a one-on-one capacity.
Another role of the commission is to make certain that the city stays focused on the long-term
comprehensive plan of the city. Each variance or land use issue that comes before the
commission should be weighed against the comprehensive plan to see if it aligns with the City's
vision.
Other Comments: I believe that the skills that I have developed would make me an excellent
member of the planning commission. As an insurance agent and risk manager I have learned to
be an excellent listener. On my j ob I am required to help businesses and individuals deal with the
risks of being in business.
I also have a great working relationship with the Roseville School District. I believe a
partnership between the School District and the City can be a very valuable thing for both parties.
