FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />The overall cost of the Ramsey County 800 MHz radio project is estimated at $35 million dollars. The <br />project manager, Paul Kirkwold, a former Ramsey County Manager, anticipates current project funding at <br />$32 million dollars. Additional sources of funds may also become available to the project. <br />CURRENT FUNDING SOURCES <br />$6, 000, 000 From the ICE grant for system equipment, <br />construction of dispatch consoles and CAD uses. <br />$3, 400, 00�� From "Part II" Federal/State Homeland Security <br />Grant for subscriber units; this is cost reimbursing, <br />we need to spend the money first. <br />From MN Radio Board, based on their policy, and <br />$8, 000, 00� can be used for up to 50% of the 800 MHz <br />subsystem and consoles, but this has not been <br />awarded yet; it will be a cost reimbursement. <br />�y���� �,� From possible Ramsey County bonds. Debt <br />5ervice budget for 200412005.but bond sale has <br />not been authorized yet. <br />ESTIMATED DIRECT COSTS TO THE CITY <br />POLICE <br />In the event we purchase our own radios, we will need to purchase both mobile squad-mounted radios <br />and portable radios. The interoperabilityfunction is the <br />most important feature of the radio system. Interoperabilitywill provide a communications safety net for <br />public safety professionals, a consolidated command and control function in times of crisis, and ultimately <br />a greatly enhanced ability to respond to public safety needs in our community. <br />COUNCILACTION REQUESTED <br />Allow staff to continue researching viability of the Ramsey County 800 MHz radio system. <br />
