Department ApprovaL• Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: � Item Description: Future use of Building at 1750 County Road C Background: The building at 1750 County Road C has been owned by the City since the mid- 1990's. It has been used as a cold storage building by various departments. Over time, the building condition has deteriorated. The roof is leaking, and the paint is faded and peeling on the exterior. It is doubtful whether the surface will "hold" paint. The structural safety of the building is uncertain. Staff has been notified by the City's Code Enforcement Division that it is becoming an eyesore and is in need ofpaint and repair. Discussion: This building was to be used for storage as long as it was in a condition that was conducive to this use. Staff believes the building is no longer useable. We have looked into demolition of the existing building, as well as costs to repair the building to efficient, useable space and get it up to City Code. We estimate the repair costs to be impractical, as a new building is estimated to be of similar costs. Financial Implications: The cost associated with demolition of the building includes the following: l. A building demo survey of environmental hazardous material has been completed.- $1,594.10 2. Estimated clean up of hazardous material -$6,250.00 3. Because the building is within the railroad right-of-way, there is a demolition construction permit and liability insurance required from the railroad. -$3,250.00 4. Building demolition cost - $16,630.00 Total cost: $27,724.10 The cost of repairing and utilizing the building are estimated to be $150,000. The cost of replacing the building, excluding demolition, is $175,000-$200,000. Discussion of bids: Two bids were received for the demolition of the building as follows: Frattalone Companies $ 16,630.00 Vet Companies $ 17,300.00
