Document 11 <br />Minneapolis Survey Results <br />May 2004 <br />This memo reports the results from a recently completed survey of Minneapolis voters. The Mellman Group, Inc. con- <br />ducted 600 telephone interviews among a random sample of registered voters in Minneapolis belween N�.y 1 S and May <br />17, 2004. The margin of error for the sample as a whole is plus or minus 4 percentagepoints at the 95 % level of confi- <br />dence. For sub-groups of the population, the margin of error is higher. <br />Results of the May 2004 survey indicate that tllere is strong support for a law prohibiting smoking inside all <br />Minneapolis public places and workplaces, includingoffices, restaurants and bars. This support <br />comes from a broad- <br />based coalition of voters <br />throughout the city, in- <br />cluding 76 percent of <br />Democrats, 65 percent <br />of independents and 74 <br />percent of Republicans. <br />The level of support <br />is consistent across the <br />city. Seventy-four (74) <br />percent of voters in <br />North Minneapolis, 71 percent of voters in Northeast, 72 percent of voters in the downtown area, 74 per- <br />cent of voters in Southwest and 70 percent of voters in South Minneapolis support a law that would pro- <br />hibit smoking inside all public places and workplaces. <br />
