REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval: �'it�� ;•f �n���c�.r .� ��ro��a]. <br />DATE: ll��a�o� <br />ITEM NO: 3.1 <br />Agenda Section <br />CONSENT <br />Item Description: A request by ISD 623 to approve a GROUND SIGN at Brimhall School, <br />� r � �t}�n�� �t}�a r� �r��a��- <br />1,� <br />� <br />�,� <br />REQUESTED ACTION <br />Lawrence Sign, on behalf of ISD 623 and Brimhall Elementary School has made <br />application for a sign permit to install a ground sign (monument) at 1744 County Road B. <br />STAFF COMMENTS/RECOMMENDATION: <br />=. l Section 1009.031(City & Public Signs) states: Except for traffic related signage, all <br />permanent city, school, or other governmental unit signage including flags must be <br />approved by the City Council. <br />�. � Section 1009.03M (Ground Signs) states: In lieu of a pylon sign, a ground sign would be <br />permitted. Ground signs may be of equal sign area allowed for pylon signs in the same <br />zoning district. Ground signs shall be limited to a maximum height of 8 feet. Ground <br />signs may be set back from street rights of way a distance equal to '/z of the setback from <br />pylon signs in the same zoning district. <br />�_;i Section 1009.04A1 and A2 discuss the allowances for signs in residential zones. <br />However, this Code section does not mention city andlor public signs and specific <br />allowances. <br />�_� The City Planner has concluded that a ground sign (monument sign) of up to 50 square <br />feet in size, no taller than 8 feet in height, and set back a minimum of 15 feet from the <br />property line is a reasonably sized and placed sign for an institutional use like an <br />elementary schooL The new sign will replace an existing sign of similar size. <br />�.� SUGGESTED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />3. ] BY MOTION APPROVE THE SIGN as a replacement for the e�sting sign for <br />Brimhall Elementary School, up to SOsq. ft. in size, no taller than 8 feet in height, and <br />set back a minimum of 15 feet from the property line adjacent to County Road B. <br />NOTE: In the near future the City will have a similar request for signage around the City <br />Hall complex. <br />PF3607TRCA 1] 4t944,�4� Page 1 of 1 <br />
