Department Approval: Item Description: REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 03/27/00 ITEM NO.: E-4 Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: Organizational Business Advisory Commission Applications BACKGROUND The City Council, at its meeting of February 28, 2000, established March 17, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. as the deadline for accepting applications for vacancies on the Ethics Commission, Human Rights Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and Police Civil Service Commission. Five commission applications were received by March 17, 2000; four for the Parks and Recreation Commission and one application for either the Ethics or Human Rights Commission. Per Procedure Statement (I-E) in Resolution No. 9372, Advisory Commission Appointments, "If fewer applications are received than twice the number of openings, the City Council may establish a new application deadline and Special Work Session for interviews. If a new deadline is adopted, the vacancy will be re-advertised as described in "B" above (item B in the Procedure Statement). Accordingly, the Council may move forward and conduct interviews for the Parks and Recreation Commission because four applications were received for the two vacancies; however, the Council should establish a new deadline for applications to fill the vacancies on the Ethics Commission, Human Rights Commission and the Police Civil Service Commission. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to establish a Special City Council Work Session on Thursday, April 6, 2000 beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of interviewing four applicants for the Parks and Recreation Commission. Motion establishing Thursday, April 20, 2000, at 4:30 p.m. as the new deadline for accepting applications for the Ethics Commission, Human Rights Commission and the Police Civil Service Commission, and establishing a Special Council Work Session, on a date to be determined, at Roseville City Hall for the purpose of interviewing commission applicants.
