Department Approval <br />Item Description: <br />Back�round <br />� <br />Request for Council Action <br />Manager Approval <br />A. <br />Date: April 10, 2000 <br />Item Number: E-2 <br />Agenda Section <br />Organizational Business <br />Appointments to Parks and Recreation Commission <br />The Council, at its February 28, 2000 meeting, established March 17, 2000 as the deadline for receiving <br />applications for vacancies on the Ethics Commission, Human Rights Commission, Parks and Recreation <br />Commission and the Police Civil Service Commission. The following applications were received: <br />Gerald S. Freeman, Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Gregory Hoag, Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Joseph Smith, Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Matthew Sundeen, Parks and Recreation Commission <br />Thomas J. Sharkey, either the Ethics or Human Rights Commission <br />A sufficient number of applications (four, twice the number of openings) were received by the deadline for the <br />Parks and Recreation Commission. The Council interviewed the applicants on April 6, 2000 and will make the <br />appointments at this Council meeting. <br />Because a sufficient number of applications was not received, the Council, at its March 27, 2000 meeting, <br />extended the deadline for applications for the Ethics Commission, Human Rights Commission and Police Civil <br />Service Commission, to Thursday, April 20, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. <br />Financial <br />None. <br />Council Action Requested <br />Motion appointing and to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a term <br />expiring March 3 1, 2003. <br />
