II
Request for Council Action
Date: April 24, 2000
Item Number: C— S
Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section
Item Description:
Modify 2000 City Council Rules of Procedure
Consent
Backround
The recently adopted 2000 City Council Standing Rules of Procedure omits the practice of moving to
Recognitions, Hearings, Land Use and Ordinances & Resolutions at 7: 15 p.m. and requires other minor
corrections. Proposed are minor modifications to correct the existing Rules of Procedure. There are no changes
in the Council's practices or intent of the existing Rules.
Clur past practice has been to conduct the routine moments of our Agenda beginning at 6:30 p.m., and
concluding or temporarily suspending discussion of those items at 7: 15 p.m. in deference to those items on the
Agenda which would be a subject of greater involvement. The structure of the Agenda allows the City to
announce Recognitions, Hearings and Land Use items at 7: 15 p.m., which is a more convenient time for public
involvement.
Polic_y Objective
This proposed modification is consistent with our past practice. It facilitates and- makes more convenient public
access to the City Council process. It places public involvement first, over the routine matters brought to City
Council be staff.
Council Action Requested
Modification of the existing 2000 City Council Rules of Procedure as proposed.
