Department Approval: 1� Item Description: REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Manager Reviewed: �� - .: DATE: 5/22/00 ITEM NO.: F-4 Agenda Section: Reports/Recommendations Award of 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving; City Proj ect M-00-03 Background: The City maintains about 44 miles of off- road pathways. The Public Works staff has put together a Pavement Management Plan for the maintenance of these pathways. As a part of this inventory the condition of each path segment basin was rated. 2000 Contract C consists of the rehabilitation of the pathways in Materion & Oasis Park, as well as part of the Lexington Ave Pathway. Bids were solicited during the last part of April and first part of May. The bids for 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project were opened on Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Policy objectives: Based on past practice, the City Council has awarded the contract to the lowest responsible bidder. In the case of the 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project, the lowest bidder is T.A. Schifsky & Sons, Inc. of North St. Paul, Minnesota. Financial implications: We received 8 bids for this improvement. The engineer's estimate for the 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project was $25,75U.00. The low bid submitted by T. A. Schifsky & Sons, Inc is $23,615.50 or 8% lower than the engineer's estimate. The following is a list of the bids received: Contract costs for the 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project are part of the approved 2000 budget and will be funded using the pathway maintenance fund. Staff recommendation: Staff recommends the Council accept the bid and award 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project to T.A. Schifsky & Sons, Inc. of North St. Paul, Minnesota. RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: Approval of a resolution awarding bid for 2000 Contract C- Pathway Paving Project in the amount of $23,615.50 to T.A. Schifsky & Sons, Inc. of North St. Paul, Minnesota.
