Verify that soil preparation and related preceding work hae been completed.
3.02 SITE PREPARATION FORNATIVE GRASS/WILDFLOWER SEEDING
A. Prior to beginning excaation activities for this project, esting vegetation within the properry
boundaries should be treated with a tank mix of RoundUp Herbicide at a rate of 5 pints per
acre and Ammonium Sulfate at 3 IbsJacre to eliminate exotic competition. In lowland areas or
any area that may negatively affect an esting wetland community through the use of this
herbicide mixture shall be sprayed with Rodeo@ herbicide at the manufacturer's recommended
rate. This work shall be done as soon as esting vegetation begins active growth, in the spring
of the season around May 15. After treatment wait seven days before excavation and
construction activities begin.
B. Following the completion of final grade wark and prior to seeding, clear, any growth of
volunteer weeds within the seeding areas with a solution of RoundUp Herbicide at 3 pints per
acre and Ammonium Sulfate at 31bsJecre. . In lowland areas or any area that may negatively
affect an esting wetland community through the use of this herbicide mixture shall be sprayed
with Rodeo@ herbicide at the manufacturer's recommended rate. Following the spray
application wait a minimum of 7 days before disturbing the site with other procedures.
C. All holes, depressions and rivulets shall be filled in and brought to a smooth finish grade.
D. Tillage should be followed by packing or harrowing to create a
firm fine textured seed-bed.
3 .03 SEEDING
A. Native plant community seedings during two periods of the year. The first is spring from the
time site preparation work is concluded in the spring, until approximately July 20. In the fall
dormant seeding between September 20 and Freeze-up. Dormant seedings do not germinate
until the following growing season when soil temperatures reach approximately 65 degrees F. If
the final grade wark is completed during a period of time between July 20 and September 20, a
temporary cover crop of oats or winter wheat should be sown to stabilize the site until an
acceptable time arrives when native grasses and wildflowers can be safely seeded.
B. All native grass seed should be sown using a Truax Native Grass Drill. In areas too tight for
equipment, grass seed can be broadcast by hand or with a mechanical spreader.
NATIVE GRASSES & WILDFLOWERS 02935-3
