Welsch for the Distinguished <br />Leadership Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association <br />(I�inAPA). On behalf of a11 those who have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Welsch <br />in planning, we submit this nomination for a truly deserving leader of our field. <br />Over the past 30 years, Dennis has served as professional planner as a Community <br />Development Director, supervisor, mentor, educator, chair of numerous committees and <br />task forces, member of many professional groups, and instigator of several innovative <br />planning initiatives. <br />Dennis is known for his ability to work in a team, his listening skills, generating ideas, <br />"can-do" attitude and for being very hard working and committed to any proj ect he <br />undertakes. He has worked on many planning issues and in many teams. There are so <br />many people who appreciate his go-getter attitude, his belief in democracy, his <br />thoughtfulness on any particular issue and strict sense of ethics. Dennis brings such a <br />strong spirit to his work as a planner; he is an inspiration to all. You will see from the <br />testimony in the attached letters that he is indeed a"distinguished" leader of our field. <br />Attached is Dennis' work history, his professional associations, educational background <br />and a list of some of his specific accomplishments over the years. In addition to such <br />apparent and observable professional accomplishments, the most important aspect of <br />Dennis' career is his ability to empowering those around him to excel. He leads by <br />example. He challenges individuals and groups to think hard and generate solutions. He <br />facilitates action and enables forward progress and tough decision making. Most of all, <br />he is a pleasure to work with. <br />For those of us lucky enough to have been supervised by him, he has been a force in our <br />lives. He sets his employees on a path to success. He offers concrete direction and <br />advice with the freedom to explore. He helps each person under him to develop specific <br />and measurable career objectives. He has helped us gain confidence in our own abilities, <br />and has been a very caring friend throughout it all. <br />
