Department Approval:
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Manager Reviewed:
 _
Item Description: Approve Change Order No. l, 2000 Contract C
DATE: 10/23/00
ITEM NO.: F-10
Agenda Section:
Background: 2000 Contract C includes paving necessary to rehabilitated the pathways in Materion
Park and Oasis Park, as well as a segment of the Lexington Avenue pathway. The non-paving
portion of this work was performed by City maintenance staff.
The approved 2000 budget includes$1 16,000 for the rehabilitation and maintenance of pathways
and parking lots. This is the first implementation year of the new pathways and parking lots
maintenance program. The City is responsible for 52 miles of pathway and over 33 parking lots.
Since the majority of these facilities have received little or no maintenance since their initial
construction, we have a large backlog of deferred maintenance.
A combination of the low paving prices bid in 2000 Contract C and the low cost realized by City Staff
to prepare pathways has made it possible to rehabilitate more pathways than originally estimated
for the $116,000 budget.. Subsequently, the Lexington Avenue pathway from Woodhill to County
Road B2 and the Central Park Victoria Pathway were added to the 2000 program.
Policy Implications: Current policy states that staff may approve Change Orders for up to 5% of the
original contract amount. This change order is for $15,402.94 which is 65% of the original contract
amount. Since the total of this Change Order exceeds 5%, City Council approval is necessary.
Financial Implications: The cost, for Change Order No. 1, $15,402.94, is within the parameters of the
approved 2000 budget and will be funded using the pathway maintenance fund.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Motion approving Change Order No. 1 for 2000 Contract C.
Prepared by: Debra Bloom
