REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Department Item Description: BACKGROUND Manager Approval: Date: October 23, 2000 Item No.: C-8 Agenda Section: Consent Sub-C&i&Agreement with the State of Minnesota for the Public Assistance (Infrastructure) Program On July 7, 2000, Roseville suffered infrastructure damage from severe storms that swept through the Metro area. Roseville incurred costs of over $42,000.00 to remove trees and limbs, repair power outages at some lift stations and call-out costs for Roseville Fire to respond to downed power lines and provide emergency power for some lift stations. On July 27, 2000, the President, in response to the Governor's request, declared seven Minnesota counties a major disaster area. Roseville was included in that declaration. Consequently Roseville applied for and received a Federal Assistance Grant that covered $32,092.56 of Roseville's expenses. To receive the funds, the City council must pass the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign the Grant Agreements. Roseville Public Works Superintendent Duane Schwartz was instrumental in applying for this grant. FINANCIAL APPLICATIONS Roseville has to pay $4,115.07 as a match. That amount was already spent out of general funds in response to the infrastructure repair. The money would have been spent regardless of the grant. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Pass the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign and accept the Sub-grant Agreement with the State of Minnesota.
