Department Approval
Item Description:

J,
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Designate 2010 Legal Newspaper
Date: January 4, 2010
Item No.: 7.e
City Manager Approval
 /
BACKGROUND
Minnesota statutes require cities to annually designate a legal newspaper for publication of ordinances
and other notices. Cities are not required to seek bids each year, so in 2009 staff requested quotes from
the newspapers for 2009 and 2010. Although the City may not designate a newspaper for more than one
calendar year, we requested information for two years to reduce staff work and allow the City to project
costs.
The City requested information from the Pioneer Press, Roseville Review, Star Tribune and Sun Focus.
The Roseville Review was the only newspaper to respond.
Newspaper: Roseville Review
Cost of Sam le Notices 2010 $82.15
Distribution in Roseville 9,785
Percent Circulation in Roseville 69.18%
Publication Fre uenc Weekl
Lead Time To Submit Le al 3 da s
Method For Ad Proof Fax
Method far Affidavit of Publication Mail
Access to Archived Affidavits No
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
The 2010 budget includes funds for legal notices. In 2009 the City spent approximately $920 in Legal
Notices.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Motion designating the only bidder, the Roseville Review, as the legal newspaper for the City of
Roseville for 2010.
Prepared by: William J.
