We
3 can expect that EAB will be found in Roseville soon. In an effort to take a proactive approach to slow the
4 movement of EAB into and through our City, a grant application was submitted to the Minnesota
5 Department of Agriculture in November. The City is still being considered for funding to prepare for a
s possible EAB infestation. The proposed project application was for $100,000 with an in-kind City match of
7 15% of the grant award amount proposed to betaken from the approved 2010 Parks and Recreation budget.
o With the help of this grant we will be able to address the impacts that EAB will have on our community
1 o forest. If grant funding is secured it will allow the City to:
1 / 1. Provide advice and education to the residents concerning private ash trees
12 2. Complete the comprehensive public tree inventory that began in the summer of 2009
13 3. Complete revisions to the comprehensive public Tree Master Plan
1 ~ 4. Complete revisions to the City Tree Ordinance
15 5. Begin systematic removal of the poorest quality ash trees
16 6. Begin reforestation of the urban forest immediately
17
18 If the City is successful and is awarded the full amount or a portion of the proposed amount the Mayor and
19 the City Manager will need to enter into a contract with the State of Minnesota prior to the next scheduled
20 council meeting.
21
22 Staff will plan to update you on the progress and actions being taken with regard to Emerald Ash Borer at
23 future meetings as appropriate.
24
25 POLICY OBJECTIVE
2s This proposal is consistent with the City's Urban Forest Resource Management Goals and leveraging funds
z7 through grants to further City efforts.
za
zg FINANCIAL IMPLICATION
3o The grant application is for $100,000 with an in-kind City match of 15% proposed to be taken from the
31 approved 2010 Parks and Recreation Budget.
32
