REQUEST FOR HRA ACTI4N <br />Date: 7-15-08 <br />Item Na; $ d. <br />Staff Appro��a�; Agenda Section <br />'v7�'`� Actian Items <br />Item Descri tion: Fall Z008 Wea�herization Education Serninar HF0071 <br />1.0 Requesied Action <br />Staff is requesting autl�orization for the RHR.A to spansor a fall 200$ Weatherization <br />Education 5eminar and utilize some of the marketin�'advertising funds from the 2008 <br />budget. <br />2.0 Backgrouz�d <br />2.1 The RHRA Strategic Plan identified that the RHR.A will ask g�est speakers to pres�nt to <br />the HRA and Roseville community and that the presentations will focus on issues like <br />housing stabilization, preservation, code en�orcem�nf, LEED certification and <br />sustainability. In addition �he RHRA wilI deveiop sustainable solutions to housing <br />through green building initiatives. <br />2.2 The RHRA vvill be addressing these goals in the 2009 Hoame anci Garden Fair, however <br />the RHRA asked Staff to explore ather opportuni�ies for community education in the falI <br />0�2048. <br />2.3 Staff has rnet with the Neighborhood Energy Connectian regarding k�okdzng a sezr�inar on <br />Ho�ne Weaiherization on Saiurday, September 20, 2008. The goal o�the s�minar would <br />be to educate home owners of what ihey can do to reduce there energy cansumption (one <br />of the elemen�s of green ini�iafives). In addition each home owners overall energy <br />reduction is based upon understanding how the hame is operating. <br />2.G To fully address each specific home's need, an energy audit should be conducted. The <br />energy audit wzll facus an impartant az•eas such: as fiarn:ace and central air conditioner <br />ef�rciency; fiirnace safety testing, including draft and carbon mano�ide testin�; blower <br />doar testing to c�eck for air Iealcage fram wir�dows and doorway; infrared camera <br />inspection to seek out insulation gaps (optional}; ��isuaI inspections of attic ant� wal� <br />insu�ation; watex heater and pipes; and household appliances.
