Roseville Public Works, Environment and
Transportation Commission
Agenda Item.
Date: March 25, 2008
Item No: 10
Item Description: Sewer /Water Utility Service Ownership 1 Cost Participation Discussion
In 2004 this Commission had a discussion about ownership of sewer and water lateral services to
homes. City code states property owners are responsible for service laterals from the home to
the connection at the mainline. Sanitary sewer service laterals are more problematic for
homeowners than water service laterals due to the materials that were used in the 1950's and
1960's when many of RosevilLe's sewers were constructed.
In some instances, repairs to service laterals can be quite expensive due to repair costs under
roadways. Staff is looking for some input on whether the city should consider participation in
instances where costs to service laterals exceeds a normal repair: If this is something the
Commission would like to pursue, we will gather additional information for a future discussion.
Recommended Aetion:
Discussion on whether this is something the Commission would hke to pursue.
