The MPCA also reserves the right to require a Perrnittee to <br />apply for and obtain an individual NPDES/SDS permit for dredging activity. <br />Additional Detailed Information <br />The management guide referenced on this Web page details the requirements for managing <br />dredged materials in the State of Minnesota, and contains all the specific information you <br />will need to determine what sampling and analysis is required, whether a permit is required, <br />and how dredged material must be managed (treatment, storage, disposal and use/reuse <br />requirements). <br />. ~_Managing Dredged Materials in the State of Minnesota <br />A fact sheet containing a brief regulatory guide and Best Management Practices (BMPs) for <br />the management of dredged material has also been prepared. <br />. ~ Best Management Practices for the Management of Dredged Materials <br />What Analysis is Required? <br />In order to determine the most appropriate management method for dredged material, an <br />evaluation of the reasonable likelihood for a given pollutant to be present in the material <br />must be made. A determination as to whether a pollutant has `reasonable likelihood' is <br />done through a combination of empirical and technical evaluation of the sediment to be <br />dredged, which may include sampling and analysis. <br />Characterization of sediment from the proposed dredge site must be completed prior to <br />initiation of dredging activity. The minimum number of samples required is based on the <br />total amount of material to be removed; the analysis must be conducted on samples that are <br />representative of, and in consideration of the dredged material and activities at the project <br />site.
