All of the main line water main has been
installed along Lexington, Churchill and Woodhill. The
Contractor has also made significant progress boring the
service pipe. Beginning the week of November 9"', the
Contractor will start connecting the new services to the
new watermain and to your homes. One crew will be
working on the service connection at the water main,
and a second crew will be working in the backyards on
the service connection to the homes.
Service Connection work: We have asked that the
Contractor mark the location of boring pits on private
property at least 48 hours in advance of starting work on
service installation. The Contractor has located your
existing service and marked it with blue flags. Wooden
stakes will be used to mark the proposed location of
boring pits in your backyard. If you have questions about
your service connection, please contact Dean Findell.
The Contractor will notify you at least 24 hours in
advance of switching your home over to the new
watermain. During the time that your service is switched
over you will not have water. This should be less than 4
hours. We recommend that the first time you use your
water after being reconnected that you run your faucet
for one or two minutes to clear the line.
If you experience low water pressure after the new
service is connected, please call the Engineering
Department at 651-792-7003. We will schedule an
appointment for our Public Works Maintenance staff to
clean your water meter screen.
Project Schedule: The Contractor will have the new
water main operational and the old main abandoned by
November 26th, 2009. In order to complete the project
by the scheduled date, the Contractor will be workina on
Saturdays, weather permitting. Due to the lateness in
the year, it is likely that some restoration will not be
completed until June 2010.
Utility Locates: To protect against underground utility
damage, the Contractor will be calling in utility locates.
This is required for anyone digging a hole, whether it is
to plant a tree or replace watermain. Xcel Energy,
Comcast and Qwest will locate their underground utilities
by spray painting and placing flags in the boulevard.
Please do not remove these flags.
Private Systems/ Gardens: Over the course of this
project the contractor will be digging in various areas. If
you have underground sprinklers, electrical for yard
lights, perennial gardens, or invisible fences installed
within 20 or 25 feet of the edge of the street or in your
yard, they need to know where they are. Removal and
reinstallation of these items is the responsibility of the
property owner. Please mark with paint or flags the
location of underground wires or sprinklers immediately.
If these items are not marked, the contractor may
damage them when they start construction. The City will
not pay to repair or replace unmarked systems.
Questions?
