7.Public Hearings
None
8.Non-Action Items, Information and Board Report
a.Board Reports
None
b.Staff Reports
st
Executive Director Cathy Bennett advised of the December 1 Planning Commission meeting
th
regarding an update on the HRA activities and the December 6 Council meeting to address
the budget and levy. The final levy must be adopted by the City Council at the December 20,
2004 meeting.
Member Bean noted that the Council and residents should be aware that if housing
issues are not addressed, such as increasing rental housing within neighborhoods, that
housing values could deteriorate and residents could lose equity in their homes.
Therefore, supporting the levy to help pay for the costs to address housing and
neighborhood issues is less costly up front (through the levy) than to pay later with loss
of home equity.
Member Hermes also expressed her concern on the neighborhood issues and the need
for housing dollars to address these issues. She expressed her passion for housing and
will relay this to the Council in their consideration of funding the levy on December 6,
2004.
Executive Bennett also mentioned that GMHC has arranged a tour of two Applewood Court
Homes on December 14, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. These two homes will be completed and the new
homeowners will move in prior to the end of 2004. A formal open house for the development
will occur in January when the remaining three homes are complete. Initiation will be mailed
to the HRA, City Council, other commissions and the neighborhood.
9.Adjourn
Motion:
Member Scheunemann moved, seconded by Member Bean, to adjourn the
December 1, 2004 meeting at 6:15 p.m.
Ayes: 4
Nays: 0
Motion carried
2
