Steve Zeece Jr., L and Z Trucks/Equipment was not able to make the meeting but
provided the following written comments:
I have a prior commitment tomorrow afternoon and cannot attend the meeting but I am very
interested in the area developments. In addition to having a commercial business in the
designated area I reside on Burke Street (205) which is 1 block away from the Guptil site. I can
provide you with some information regarding L-Z Truck Equipment’s future plans or lack
thereof and you can make them part of the meeting in my absence. We have enjoyed much
success with our Ford Motor Ship Thru contract and have had some overflow parking issues
which prompted us to utilize the Minnesota State Fair as an auxiliary parking area. Obviously
the land directly north of us which is currently owned by David (Kris) Krengel would seem to be
a perfect fit for us. However, his asking price ($300, 000.00) is steep for a parking lot but we
don’t want to be shortsighted either and realize that in the long run the entire corner would gain
more value with this additional parcel of land added to what we already have. …
I am 47 with 3 children (all boys) in Roseville school ages 14, 14 & 11. They all play sports
and I volunteer as a baseball manager and as the scheduler for gym time in basketball. I am
pretty entrenched in the community and unless someone came up with an offer I could not refuse
I plan on continuing to run the business. It is a challenge every day but its fun! So, I will keep
all of our options open as things can change quickly.
Scott Storlien, resident at 140 N. McCarrons Blvd. commented:
Mr. Storlien owns the small single family home that is zoned for business which was
bought through a HUD sale.
The owner has had difficulty getting financing for improvements since the home is not in
compliance with zoning.
He would be interested in updating the home and has always thought that the only reuse
for the site would be for the adjoining owners for parking.
Meeting 3.
On December 18, 2003 the first Neighborhood Task Force meeting was held at the Galilee
Lutheran Church. The following members were present. Ann Peterson, Donna Dean, Dan
Jeans, George Johnson, Pastor Carlson, Dennis Guptil, Cathy Bennett & Dennis Welsch. After
reviewing the area conditions, demographics and issues the task force members offered
comments on the most important quality of life standards for a healthy neighborhood:
Church focuses on neighborhood
Transportation - quick hop to metro area
Safety
Speeders around Lake including school bus
Traffic Control
Transit to Rice/McCarrons
Good services – streets, police, fire, park/center
DRAFT MARCH 10, 2004 22
