Reduction of strip retail development and rather the creation of compact nodes that create <br />more of an identity. <br />Develop mixed-uses with two to three stories where appropriate to shield the residential <br />neighborhood from the traffic and noise along Rice Street. <br />Incorporate walkability and connectivity to the services along Rice Street and through the <br />neighborhoods. <br />Develop design standards that portray a consistent architectural appealing look and <br />quality materials. <br />20.Summary of Task Force Meetings <br />A number of neighborhood and task force meetings have been held during the fall and winter of <br />2003-04. While all agreed that the existing house should be removed, in general the comments <br />lead to similar “future use” conclusions: <br />Handicapped housing <br />Single family <br />Multi family – well designed and specialized to match the context of the neighborhood <br />Keep and improve the pond as an amenity with any future use. <br />Meeting 1. <br />The first neighborhood meeting was on October 22, 2003 with the McCarrons Lake <br />Neighborhood Association. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the study area and <br />purpose and generate a list of study issues to be reviewed. The following study issues were <br />identified. From that meeting a list of task force members was developed to assist in the study <br />process. <br />Meeting 2. <br />On December 9, 2003 staff met with area property owners to understand what the current and <br />future land use issues and opportunities were from their perspective.Invitation letters were <br />mailed to all commercially zoned property within the study area. The following members <br />attended the meeting: <br />Galilee Lutheran Church members had the following comments: <br />Concern about how will the church be affected by development of the property at 185 <br />North McCarrons? <br />The Church is interested in partnering and/or some relationship in uses. <br />Envision a coordinated plan between the Church, then to the west including the Armory. <br />The site should be used to serve the neighborhood. <br />DRAFT MAY 18, 2004 21 <br /> <br />
