the Summer 1995 Thief River Falls team wins first place at state Envirothon A team from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls won the 1995 state Envirothon at Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley on Thursday, May 18. The team scored 83 out of a possible 100 points. Although the team did well at all five learning stations, which included soils, forestry, aquatics, groundwater, and wildlife, they scored signifi- cantly higher than most other teams at both the soils and aquatics stations. Many participants believed that those stations were the most difficult. Team members were Philip Nelson, Sarah Leach, Adam Henney, Sarah Huschle and Justin Phillips. Patti Johnson was their teacher/advisor. For the second year in a row, a team from Mabel-Canton in extreme southeastern Minne- sota (Area VII) placed second in the state Envirothon with a score of 78. Team members were Shane Batland, Brandon Rutter, Matt Erickson, Mat Miller, and Ernie Kleiboer. Their teacher/advisor was Albert Spande. Third place went to Cathedral High School in New Ulm, last year's first place winner. The Cathedral team also scored 78, but lost atie-breaker to Mabel-Canton. Team mem- hers were Mandy Rahe, Sarah Ginkel, Adam Roesch, Ben Loetscher, and Mary Vancura. Sue Pickus was their teacher/advisor. Last year's Cathedral High School team came in seventh in the national Envirothon.
