the Summer 1995 <br />Thief River Falls team wins first <br />place at state Envirothon <br />A team from Lincoln High <br />School in Thief River Falls <br />won the 1995 state <br />Envirothon at Springbrook <br />Nature Center in Fridley on <br />Thursday, May 18. The team <br />scored 83 out of a possible <br />100 points. <br />Although the team did well at <br />all five learning stations, <br />which included soils, forestry, <br />aquatics, groundwater, and <br />wildlife, they scored signifi- <br />cantly higher than most other <br />teams at both the soils and <br />aquatics stations. Many <br />participants believed that <br />those stations were the most <br />difficult. <br />Team members were Philip <br />Nelson, Sarah Leach, Adam <br />Henney, Sarah Huschle and <br />Justin Phillips. Patti Johnson <br />was their teacher/advisor. <br />For the second year in a row, <br />a team from Mabel-Canton in <br />extreme southeastern Minne- <br />sota (Area VII) placed second <br />in the state Envirothon with a <br />score of 78. Team members <br />were Shane Batland, Brandon <br />Rutter, Matt Erickson, Mat <br />Miller, and Ernie Kleiboer. <br />Their teacher/advisor was <br />Albert Spande. <br />Third place went to Cathedral <br />High School in New Ulm, last <br />year's first place winner. The <br />Cathedral team also scored <br />78, but lost atie-breaker to <br />Mabel-Canton. Team mem- <br />hers were Mandy Rahe, <br />Sarah Ginkel, Adam Roesch, <br />Ben Loetscher, and Mary <br />Vancura. Sue Pickus was <br />their teacher/advisor. Last <br />year's Cathedral High School <br />team came in seventh in the <br />national Envirothon. <br />The Lincoln High School team <br />has been working hard pre- <br />paring for the national <br />Envirothon in Rexburg, Idaho, <br />Envirothon con't on p. 3 <br />1 <br />Marilyn Schafer fram the M,4SWCD Auxiliary stands with the winning <br />Lincoln High School team.
