i 1 Published Quarterly by the Hennepin Conservation District January 1996 ~~g Sc~~~~ i~e~ts c~ 1~~c~~cd 1~ at~~ ~~~o~ing The Hennepin Conservation District (HCD); in cooperation with the Elm Creek Watershed yIan- agement Commission, initiated a Benthic ~Iacroinvertebrate monitoring programin 1995. This program will provide HCD information on what invertebrates live in the different creeks within the Elm Creek watershed. The quality of water in the creeks can be determined by the type of inverte- brates living in them. Eventually the HCD hopes to have s good baseline reading for all of the creeks and to oe able to compare recent data to the baseline data. The HCD feels this project is important and so do many others. Six local high schools have stepped forward to lead ahand. Wayzata, Armstrong, Orono, Rockford, Park Center and Champlin high schools are leading the way. The HCD is planning to improve and expand its monitoringprogram in 199b.
