Page 2
Dec. 27, 1995
Jim Haertel was promoted to a position in the central office. In his new assignment, Jim
will be coordinating appeals filed on a statewide basis with our agency and will be
involved with policy issues relating to metro watershed planning.
David Johnson was recently hired to fill the vacancy created by Jim's promotion. David
was formerly employed by the MDNR Division of Waters as a Hydrologist where he work
on water conservation plans for municipal water supply systems. David is well qualified
with his BS and MS degrees from the U of M and field experience as an Area Hydrologist
in Duluth. David's work area will include Carver, Hennepin and Scott Counties.
Matt Moore was also recently hired as a Board Conservationist. Matt's main focus will
be to provide overall coordination in the review of WMO plans and to provide direct
assistance to WMOs in ongoing watershed planning issues. Matt will also fill in for David
Johnson and Barbara Ohman on other tasks such as Technical Evaluation Panel work, on
an as-needed basis. Nlatt comes to us with a depth of experience working with local
governments through two consulting engineering firms and the Wright Soil and Water
Conservation District.
Eric Evenson was hired in September on a part-time, mobility assignment basis with grant
funding received from the Metropolitan Council. Eric will be working on second
generation watershed management plans for Carver Creek WMO and Credit River WMO.
The goal of the project is to create model-type plans for a representive developing urban
fringe WMO and a representative rural WMO that meet the criteria of the applicable rule
and law. Eric comes to us with exceptional qualifications in land use and watershed
planning. Eric currently is employed as a planner for the Dakota County Planning
Department.
Jim and Matt's positions are new positions funded by the 1995 legislature and reflects the
recognition by the legislature that watershed planning is an important Metro issue. The additional
staff capacity and the model plan project will allow us to take a more pro-active role in the
development of the second generation "509" plans.
Feel free to call me at 297-4958 if you have any questions about any of the above matters.
