GRASS LAKE WATER MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION <br />AGENDA ITEM <br />Date: 7/31/97 Prepared by: Mark Maloney Item: D-2 <br />Public Education <br />Item Description: Public Education/Information Plan Update <br />As presented at the May I, 1997, the proposed education/informationp1an would consist of five <br />phases:: goal setting, research, plan writing, implementation and evaluation. At that `meeting, the <br />GLWMO Board directed that the focus of the proposed Public Education/Information Plan be <br />confined specifically to two goals: <br />• To modify turf management practices to protect water quality <br />• Remind public about impacts of recreational lake use on water quality and of the <br />importance of water quality to standard of living/general health. <br />With Board consensus regarding the goals, the technical staff for GLWMO was to begin <br />performing research to determine the potential. audience and effectiveness of various modes of <br />communications (surveys, questionnaires, newsletters, etc.). At this time the research phase of <br />the plan development is yet to be completed, and a draft. planhasn't been prepared. for <br />.discussion: Resources (staff time) haven't been available to complete this phase, and the <br />development/presentation of a draft plan will: likely be delayed until the October 23, 1997 <br />meeting. <br />The amended schedule for development of thepublic education/information plan for GLWMO is <br />as follows: <br />Next Meeting (October 23) Research completed, Draft Plan presented <br />.1St 1998 Meeting Report on Initial Stages of Implementation <br />
