Effectiveness
Organizations have initiated professional certification programs to verify that
persons have met minimum competency standards. Effective map-making
requires skills and specialized training. The Society of Wetland Scientists
awards certificates for "Professional Wetland Scientists." The American
Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing awards certificates as
"Certified Mapping Scientist, Remote Sensing," "Certified Mapping
Scientist, GIS," and "Certified Mapping Scientist Photogrammetry".
A.C.E. =Accuracy + Consistency + Effectiveness
In the end, wetlands data need to be consistently accurate to be effectively
used. Effective quality assurance procedures "take the worry" out of the
hands of the map-users. Mapping standards, quality assurance procedures
and. qualified, certified map-makers are a winning combination. They give
map-users an "A.C.E. in the Hole" (Accuracy + Consistency +
Effectiveness).
Also by the author:
Anderson, John C., Proceedings of the 1998 ASPRS/RTI Annual Conference,
"Aerial Photo Interpretation of Archived Aerial Photography for ~Vetiands
Resource Assessment Applications" Tampa, FL
Anderson, John C., June, 1997, "Air Photo Interpretation: AProven Effective
Method", "Society of Wetland Scientists Bulletin (Volume 14, Number 2).
Anderson, John C., November, 199, "Air Photo Interpretation in Wetlands
Mapping and Site Development", Journal of the Minnesota Society of
Professional Surveyors
Anderson, John C., Miller, Marvin, and Harry Rosefelt, November, 199, "Air
Photo Interpretation, Digital Orthophotography and ArcView 2.1: Powerful
Tools for Wetlands Mapping."
