Effectiveness
Organizations have initiated professional certification programs to verify that
persons have met minimum competency standards. Effective map-making
requires skills and specialized training. The Society of Wetland Scientists
awards certificates for "Professional Wetland Scientists." The American
Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing awards certificates as
"Certified Mapping Scientist, Remote Sensing," "Certified Mapping
Scientist, GIS," and "Certified Mapping Scientist Photogrammetry".
A.C.E. =Accuracy + Consistency + Effectiveness
In the end, wetlands data need to be consistently accurate to be effectively
used. Effective quality assurance procedures "take the worry" out of the
hands of the map-users. Mapping standards, quality assurance procedures
and. qualified, certified map-makers are a winning combination. They give
map-users an "A.C.E. in the Hole" (Accuracy + Consistency +
Effectiveness).
