BWSR Meeting Minutes <br />January 27, 1999 <br />Page Seven <br />personnel management, new hires for MRCS. Many new positions will be multi-SWCD <br />employees to assist in technical assistance. Roger stated that Greg Larson will be <br />working with him on the cooperative USDA/NRCS/BWSR/SWCD initiative. This effort <br />will receive $300M nationwide; if funded Minnesota will receive about $8M, that's about <br />$80,000 per SWCD. <br />-Tim Gieseke, MACDE, was introduced. Tim is the district manager at the Carver <br />SWCD. Tim will be representing MACDE at the BWSR meetings. Tim reported that the <br />MACDE summer session agenda will include: accounting, nutrient management, PCA <br />rules update; marketing SWCDs -looking for someone to present this topic; and feedlot <br />solutions. He stated that Area 4 is involved in land use issues; Carver SWCD is <br />working on the Bevens Creek watershed-wide basin area. Carver SWCD received <br />funds from Met Council, so they can be flexible in getting things done in Area 4. <br />-Owen Knutson, MASWCD, stated that he's :,opeful that the federal dollars will come to <br />assist SWCDs. Owen reported that MASWCD is working on Animal Feedlot Operations <br />(AFO) and their legislative agenda. MAS1/VCD's "SWCD Day At The Capitol and <br />Legislative Briefing" is scheduled for the evening of February 24, at the Kelly Inn in St. <br />Paul; and then meeting with various legislators at the Capitol on February 25. <br />Upcoming Meetings <br />-NACD Annual Meeting, January 31-February 4, in San Diego. Dwain Otte, Allan <br />Oehlke and Bruce Sandstrom will be attending. <br />- The next BWSR meeting is February 24 in St. Paul. <br />- The MAWD Legislative Breakfast is fVtarch 12 at the Kelly Inn in St. Paul. <br />- Rinke-Noonen is hosting a drainage meeting in St. Cloud. This is an annual meeting <br />with a focus on training. <br />- Tentative dates for BWSR fall tour -Stearns County invited the BWSR to tour Stearns <br />County September 22-23 (Wednesday and Thursday). <br />- Clair Nelson invited the board to Lake County in June. <br />Chair Roer stated that the BWSR committees need to be updated to include new board <br />members. She asked board members to identify their areas of interest and let the Chair <br />or Ron Harnack know which committee they would like to be on. <br />
