GRASS LAKE WATER
MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION
2660 Civic Center Drive .Roseville, Minnesota .55113
April 4, 2000
Mr. Dan Schacht
Acting Ramsey County Engineer
3377 N. Rice Street
St. Paul, MN 55126
RE: SPRING STREET SWEEPING
Dear Mr. Schact:
The Grass Lake Watershed Management Organization (GLWMO) operates as a joint
powers organization to manage water resources in a portion of the Cities of Shoreview
and Roseville in Ramsey County. Major water bodies within the GLWMO include Lake
Owasso, Lake Wabasso, Snail Lake and Grass Lake. Our Board, at its March 23, 2000
meeting, discussed the importance of ongoing city maintenance programs -- especially
street sweeping.
The GLWMO would like to thank Ramsey County for your efforts to complete street
sweeping as early as possible each spring. The early 2000 spring was a surprise to many
of us and required modification of many normal maintenance schedules. The GL WMO
Board wishes to emphasize the importance of timely street sweeping to local water
quality and ask that you give this activity the highest priority each spring. It is important
that we collect as much sand, dirt and debris before it reaches our lakes, ponds and
wetlands. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Again, thank you for you commitment to environmental protection efforts in Ramsey
County. The GLWMO understands the importance of intergovernmental cooperation to
water resource management and looks forward to future partnerships with Ramsey
County.
Sincerely,
•~/~~~ •
Karl P. Keel
GLWMO Technical Staff
