~ ~a~~ ~a r~~ ~a~~~
~~~ac ~~~~~ o~~a~o~a~oo~
October 14, 2002
Stephanie. McNamara
Vadnais Lake Area Water Management.Organization
4701 Highway 61
White Bear Lake, Minnesota55110
Re: Lambert Creek Diversion Project
Dear Ms. McNamara:.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the recent discussion regarding Lambert Creek. I
benefited from the presentation by the St. Paut Water Utility, and have a better understanding of
the issues relating to the quality and cost for treatment of the surface water sources for the
drinking water for the St: Paul Area. I certainly understand he need to examine all feasible
alternatives, but at this time, I cannot be hopeful that the Grass Lake Water Management
.Organization board members would support a diversion of potentially nutrient-rich flow from the
Vadnais Lakes Area Water Management jurisdiction toward Grass Lake. Both water quality and
quantity issues would be problematic; Grass Lake is a unique wetland complex that is understood
to'be of regional significance, and we have already seen unprecedented water levels in the area in
the past three years due to increased/redirected flows.
Again, thanks for asking for Grass Lake WMO's participation in this discussion. Please contact
me as further study results become available, andlet me know if we can be of any assistance.
Sincerely,
GRASS L KEW ER MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION
.Mark J.
