Building communities that work <br />Environmental Services <br />September 27, 2004 <br />~~,~~~' SGT 0 4 2004 <br />Enclosed you will find a flyer describing the 2003 census of lake water clarity for the Twin Cities <br />Metropolitan Area (TCMA). In addition to our Citizen Assisted Monitoring Program (CAMP) for <br />lakes, which last year monitored 1281akes, the Metropolitan Council is now conducting an <br />annual census of water clarity for nearly 1000 TCMA lakes. <br />This census provides an estimate of summer mean. water clarity using satellite imagery. This flyer <br />provides a broad overview of this program, the methods used, and the results from the 2003 <br />assessment. It also provides contacts and web links for anyone interested in more detailed <br />information. <br />The data presented in this flyer will also be added to a regional satellite-based water clarity <br />database, which is available far download from the MetroGIS Datafinder website <br />(www.datafinder.ori;). This database provides water clarity estimates for most TCMA lakes <br />spanning the period from 1973 to the present.
