® E'.I' Y'
MAY 22-25, 2005 =THE DRAWBRIDGE - FT MITCHELL, KY
You are invited to be part of the
National Watershed Coalition's (NWC)
Ninth National Watershed Conference.
The theme of the conference is "The
Watershed Program at 50: Reflections
on the Past and Forecasts for the Fu-
ture"
It will soon be 50 years since President
Dwight D. Eisenhower with the stroke
of a pen created the USDA Watershed
Program.
While many changes have taken place
in the United States these past 50 years
the program continues to provide pro-
tection and benefits across the country.
As we reflect on the program at age 50
we are afforded the opportunity to
acknowledge our successes and to
learn from our mistakes.
The Ninth National Watershed Confer-
ence will provide an opportunity and a
forum to reflect on the program. From
these reflections it is our hope that par-
ticipants will join in developing a
forecast for the future.
Much of the history of the Watershed
Program is written on the land. The
program has had a huge impact on the
productivity of the land as well as
human health and safety.
Presenters are urged to consider past,
present and future issues in develo@g
submissions for presentation at the
conference. Local watershed project
sponsors are strongly encouraged to
present.
Considering the theme which encompasses both reflection and forecasting the
future, abstracts for oral presentations will be accepted in the following catego-
ries:
- USDA PL-534 / PL-566 History
- The impact of the USDA Watershed Program 1945-2005
- Case histories -past and present projects and rehabilitations
- Watershed lessons learned
- Changing roles and new partnerships within the Watershed Program
- Non structural success stories utilizing PL-566
- New opportunities for additional benefits in old projects
- Local watershed project sponsors future -challenge and opportunity
All accepted papers are eligible for publication in the conference proceedings.
To submit your abstract, prepare a 400 word, or less, description of your
presentation.
