The total maximum daily load (TMDL} study was pursued to diagnose the cause and solution to high <br />chloride concentrations in Shingle Creek and is the first of its kind in the Twin Cities Metro Area. The work was <br />completed for the Shingle Creek Watershed Management Commission. Road salt application is the major source of <br />chloride. With increasing development and use of road salt, chloride is likely to become a concern for other metro area <br />watersheds.
