At the time I was contacted the
augmentation pump was operating so the DNR asked me to shut down the pump and
discontinue pumping indefinitely.
Sucker Lake is now designated as an "infested water" and control of the lake will fall
under the jurisdiction of the Ecological Services division of the MNDNR. Because the
augmentation pump was operating at the time the zebra mussels were discovered the
DRN is concerned that adolescent mussels may have been pumped to Snail Lake. A
survey was conducted on Snail Lake to determine if zebra mussels were present in the
lake but none were found. Surveys are also planned for spring and summer of 2008.
I have had discussions with individuals at Ecological Services and they have informed
me that operation ofthe augmentation pump is still possible, but new conditions will
most likely be placed on the pumping permit. I am currently working with Ecological
Services to determine what steps the SLID will have to complete to modify the pumping
permit.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the comments please contact me at
651-490-4652
