Data Analysis of City of Roseville Recyclable Materials
Co ariso oft a Current al Strea i- eel
e o o the ual trea i- eel e o uvi
Additional Education
The residents in the Wednesday pilot area received additional recycling educational
materials while their collection method (dual stream) and frequency (bi-weekly)
remained unchanged. The results are reflected below in Table 14.
Table 14
Comparison of Dual Stream Routes During Pilot
Bi-Weekly with Additional Education vs. Bi-Weekly Control
Wednesday (Addt'I Educ) Route' Friday (Control) Routez
90% Confidence 90% Confidence Statistically
Interval Interval Significant
Difference
Material Mean Lower Upper Mean Lower Upper
Category
Paper 56.4% 53.4% 59.5% 59.5% 53.9% 65.1
Metals 8.9% 7.8% 10.0% 6.7% 6.0% 7.5%
Glass 18.3% 14.7% 21.8% 22.2% 14.5% 29.8%
Plastic 12.3% 9.5% 15.1 % 8.6% 6.3% 10.9%
Contaminants 4.1% 3.8% 4.4% 3.0% 2.5% 3.5%
Total3 100% n/a n/a 100% n/a n/a
~ 1 hree samples were sorted trom the Wetlnesday routes.
s Three samples were sorted from the Friday routes.
a The totals may not equal the sum of the material categories due to rounding.
As shown in Table 14, the upper and lower confidence intervals of the bi-weekly, dual
stream with additional education collection routes were not significantly different than
the bi-weekly dual stream (control) routes. Thus, the composition of the materials
collected did not significantly change.
As for the quantities of materials collected, Table 15 below reflects the weights of the
quantities collected for each route.
B1605 B-13
