Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />DRAFT Minutes -May 11, 2010 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />91 <br />92 Commissioner Grefenberg moved and Commission Yates seconded a motion by which the <br />93 Human Rights Commission expresses its appreciation and gratitude for the interest and efforts <br />94 taken by the Fire Department, Police Department, Roseville Area School District, especially Peg <br />95 Kennedy, and the Roseville Lutheran Church and the League of Women Voters, and especially <br />96 thanks to Mayor Craig Klausing, for his remarks and attendance, and we also express our <br />97 appreciation of the contributions of the Karen community. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />98 <br />99 4b. Discussion about Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities Human Rights <br />100 Video Contest <br />101 <br />102 Commissioner McKenzie summarized the Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities <br />103 Human Rights Video Contest sponsored by the University of Minnesota Human Rights Center. <br />104 Commissioners discussed ways to promote the contest, including contacting CTV, the local <br />105 schools and the Roseville Review. <br />106 <br />107 Commissioner McKenzie moved and Commissioner Yates seconded the motion to support and <br />108 promote the Youth Against Race, Class, and Place Disparities Human Rights Video Contest. <br />109 Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />110 <br />111 5. Public Comment <br />112 <br />113 No one appeared for public comment. <br />11.4 <br />115 6. Future Agenda Items <br />116 <br />117 Commissioner Yates asked that the HRC consider more dialogues like the Karen Forum, <br />118 focusing on new communities, possibly the Somali community in Roseville or other groups that <br />119 may be identified when census data becomes available. Commissioners want to create <br />120 opportunities for people to get to know each other. <br />121 <br />122 Commissioner McKenzie asked that the HRC revisit getting a youth commissioner. <br />123 <br />124 Commissioner Grefenberg asked for a status report on the October community meeting, whether <br />125 plans were underway yet. Commissioner McKenzie said they would begin planning a few <br />126 months before the event. <br />127 <br />128 7. Announcements <br />129 <br />130 Commissioner McKenzie mentioned the Close the Gap Workshop on June 14 and 15. <br />131 <br />132 Curti reminded Commissioners that Roseville's essay contest winner Kenzie Lutz took place in <br />133 the statewide essay contest. Kenzie attends Roseville Area Middle School and is taught by Mr. <br />134 Greg Ueland. <br />135 <br />
