Dept. recollection, we did not bring forward requests
from
* Fulan Gong group
* Chemical Dependency week (or possibly month)
* A business, in the health field that wanted us to declare a day that highlighted their
disease/product. They did not have any connection to Roseville that we could determine - no
office, no advocate in Roseville asking for this day, and it was purely to promote their
commercial business.
* We also get calls from individuals asking if we could commemorate a parent or a
grandparent's 90th or 100th birthday in some way. We do not proclaim a day, instead, the
mayor has sent a letter of congratulations.
We currently have a request for a Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Pride Proclamation.
-----Original Message-----
From: Amy Ihlan [mailto:amyihlan@comcast.net]
Sent: Monday, June 07, 2010 6:53 AM
To: Bill Malinen
Subject: Questions re Commemorative Days and Months
Dear Bill,
I have a couple of questions about tonight's agenda item re recognition
of commemorative days and months. If the council could have this
additional background information available at the meeting, it would be
very helpful.
Here are my questions:
1. The staff memo indicates (lines 20-24) that numerous requests are
received for commemorative days or months, and that while some requests
are granted, "other requests have not been brought forward based on the
unwritten policy". Could you please provide the council with a list of
requests for commemorative days or months that have been denied (or not
brought forward) during your tenure as city manager? What is the
1
/D
