~~~h 1-1~~~- ~I~9l~a
ROSEVILLE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
Program Planners Committee Report
Prepared for 7uly 19, 2010, joint Meeting with City Council
Summary of Committee 2010 Activities:
The Committee prepared a grant application for a Bremer Foundation grant
through the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and was successful in
receiving a $1,500 grant for its work on Civic Engagement.
The Committee developed a recommendation on encouraging volunteers to
work with the Human Rights Commission in its programs and projects.
The Committee met three times on the Civic Engagement charge (see
below).Committee members have also been individually reviewing the
literature, assessing various models of community participation, and
compiling information. The following is a summary of our current thinking for
this project:
Civic Engagement Project
Project Objective: to assess the current status of, and develop a
plan for, civic engagement in Roseville to be presented to the Human
Rights Commission and City Council. Working title: A Civic
Engagement Framework for Roseville.
Why: Last year the City Council, in consultation with the Human
Rights Commission, assigned to the Commission the responsibility of
engaging Roseville residents at the neighborhood level in civic
governance, one of Imagine Rosevi//e's goals.
In response the Human Rights Commission revised its own Strategic
Plan by adding the following goal and concurrent objectives:
Foster community through inclusive, welcoming,
responsive neighborhoods and city government.
• Develop a process to assess city government activities,
programs, and services for accessibility so that city activities,
programs and services may be understandable and responsive to
a diverse citizenry.
• Develop programs and recommendations for the Council to
encourage and assist in the development of neighborhood groups,
forums, and networks in order to provide residents with a sense of
belonging and facilitate effective citizen engagement.
The Program Planners Committee's role is to plan the implementation
of the above objectives.
Program Planners Committee Report 07-19-2010
