August 18, 2010 <br />Item 2 <br />Approve Minutes of June 8, 2010 <br />1 Human Rights Commission <br />2 DRAFT -Meeting Minutes- DRAFT <br />3 June 8, 2010 <br />4 <br />5 Commissioners Present: Chair David Singleton; Commissioners Gary Grefenberg, Liz <br />6 Jaeger, Thelma McKenzie and Marie Oftelie. Commissioner Peg <br />7 Kennedy arrived at 6:45 p.m. <br />8 <br />9 1. Call to Order: Chair David Singleton called meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. The Clerk <br />10 called the roll. <br />11 <br />12 2. Approve Minutes of May 11, 2010 <br />13 <br />14 Commissioner Gary Grefenberg moved approval of the minutes with a correction on line 37-39 <br />15 removing the word "activities" and adding "community participation efforts" and replacing the <br />16 word "establish" with "consider" and adding "forums and other forms of citizen involvement," <br />17 and on lines 124-126 amending the sentence by removing "for a status report on the October <br />18 community meeting" and adding "for the October community dialogue" at the end. <br />19 Commissioner Marie Oftelie seconded the motion. Motion prevailed, with one abstention. <br />20 <br />21 3. Staff/Committee Reports <br />22 <br />23 3a. Visions of Success Subcommittee <br />24 <br />25 Commissioner Liz Jaeger provided a summary of the May 27 Regional Human Rights <br />26 Commission meeting. She noted that attendance was beyond what was anticipated, especially <br />27 since many people could not make it before the Memorial. Day weekend. She said the presenters <br />28 were well prepared and well received. She thanked the planners involved and the commissioners <br />29 who helped at the event. <br />30 <br />31 Commissioners were impressed with the resources available and the history of the Roseville <br />32 Human Rights Commission. They commented that it helped put the HRCs role in context of <br />33 where we have been and where the commission is going. Commissioners said the networking <br />34 time before and after the meeting was very useful to get to know others better. <br />35 <br />36 Commissioners mentioned the possibility of offering accreditation hours as a way to attract more <br />37 people to regional meetings. The Minnesota Department of Human Rights would be responsible <br />3 8 to coordinate accreditation hours. <br />39 <br />40 Chair Singleton read a thank you note from Mario Hernandez, expressing his appreciation for all <br />41 of the work by the Roseville HRC. <br />42 ' <br />43 Commissioner Oftelie offered her apology for not being able fo attend the Karen community <br />44 meeting. Commissioner Peg Kennedy said she appreciated the cultural sensitivity that the Police <br />45 and Fire Inspector showed when presenting information on some highly sensitive topics. <br />
