OCTOBER 11, 2000
TO: ROSEVILLE CHARTER COMMISSION MEMBERS
FROM: AL SANDS ~-
RE: OCTOBER MEETING; PREVAILING PRACTICES
I'd appreciate you're taking a look at the enclosed "Recap of Comparable Cities"
that shows the prevailing practices of those charter cities in our handbook, as compared
to the League of MN. Cities Model we are going to use as a guide. Please bring it with
you to the October meeting.
It details the prevailing practices regarding initiative, referendum, recall, even or
odd year elections, size of council, election by ward or at large, etc. I think it's important
that we know the prevailing practices, as compared to the Leagues Model that we are
going to be using as a guide. (The League Model is now over 25 years old, and may need
some updating when compared with prevailing practices.)
There is a more complete report on prevailing practices covering all 100 plus
charter cities in Minnesota in our Roseville Handbook (Section 4-K) which you may also
want to have available in October and future meetings.
Call if you have any questions (633-5761)
