Please state your reasons for wan�ng #� s�rve ort the Roseville City Council. (please be as specific as possible — use additional sheet ifnecessa y) I would like to serve on the City Council because I view it as an opportunity to help chart Roseville's future. There are several policy areas in which I am particularly interested. First, strong neighborhoods are the foundation of a strong community. I am interested in pursuing policies that strengthen neighborhoods. For example, I would like to see an expansion of neighborhood organizations such as the James Addition Task Force. I want to explore the possibility of creating neighborhood organizations that serve both as a means of getting information from the neighborhood to the City and frofril the City to citizens. Second, public involvement is crucial to the civic health of a community. I would like to be active in efforts to reach out to new members of the community, to solicit their input and to enlist their services. Although I have currently been living in Roseville for only eight years, I also grew up in the community. Therefore, while I have roots in the community comparable to many longtime residents, I can also appreciate the sense of exclusion that some newcomers may feel. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between these two groups. Third, a strong economic base is vital to the community's future. I want to continue to be involved in helping chart a course for the City that involves long-term planning to make sure that the City is positioned to take advantage of economic opportunities. Related to that concern, in this era of increased responsibilities for local government, I want to guarantee that the City continues to explore opportunities to provide services in the most cost efficient manner possible. For example, partnering with local school districts or other units of government in providing services. Please state your view of the role of the City Council. I view the Council as being the policy making body for citizens of Roseville. The Council should be concerned with long-term goals for the City and with working with staff (through the City Manager) to make sure that those goals are carried out. My work experience and my training as a lawyer have helped me develop the skills necessary to evaluate complicated policy issues. Further, I believe that my experience demonstrates that I am able to work well with others. During my time as Planning Commission Chair, I have had to deal with a number of contentious issues. Despite the intense feelings surrounding those issues, I think it is fair to say that I have gotten along well with others, even those with whom I disagreed. I would bring these same skills to the job of Council member.
