If the variances are approved, the proposed additions will expand the e�sting structure toward a side lot line and toward Heinel C�rcle, but not toward Lake Owasso. Even after the proposed additions ha�e been constructed, the lot will ha�e less than 30% impervious surface coverage. In addition, the lowest levels of the proposed additions and e�sting structure will be well above the 1% flood elevation of Lake Owasso. Given the above conditions, DNR Waters will not object to the approval ofthe variance request. However, we recommend that the following conditions be attached to the approval of the variances: That additional trees be planted between the existin home and Lake Owasso. These trees will serve to aid in screening the view of the house from �e lake and additional trees will also help to improve the water quality of Lake Owasso. The Vesterholts should be told that it is possible to trim the lower branches from the trees in order to preserve the view of the lake from the house. That a portion of the shoreline of Lake Owasso be planted with a buffer of native plant species (the rest of the shorehne to be used for swimming and boating). Enclosed with this IetteC are pictures showing an example of yards landscaped with native vegetation. A plant species list is also included with the letter. The native vegetation helps to prevent shoreline erosion, removes nutrients from the lake, prevents additional nutrients from entering the lake, and attracts wildlife. Properly planned, planted and maintained the buffer/garden can be a very attractive amenity. Thank you for giving the DNR the op�ortunity to comment on the Vesterholt variance.
