Department Approval <br />�(� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCII, ACTION <br />Manager Reviewed <br />�j <br />Date: 10/22/O1 <br />Item No.: C-1 <br />Agenda Section <br />Consent <br />Description: Authorization To Advertise For Citizen Volunteers For Various Commission <br />Openings <br />Background <br />There are a number of terms which will be ending on March 3 l, 2001, as well as the expansion of the <br />Ethics Commission from 3 members to 5. So that the process can begin, it would be appropriate for <br />staff to have the authorization to begin advertising in the near future for citizen volunteers. <br />Policy Implications <br />The Council has always depended on volunteer citizens to provide advice and guidance in the various <br />committees and commissions of the City. In 2001, the Council approved a specific policy regarding <br />community participation and consultation. (copy attached) <br />Financial Implications <br />There are no direct fiscal impacts regarding this action other than the advertising expenses, which <br />included in the 2001 budget. <br />Staff Recommendations <br />Staff is recommending that the City Council authorize staff to prepare and advertise for citizen <br />applications for the Council to consider in filling vacancies in the various City Commissions <br />Council Action <br />Motion to authorize the staff to advertise in a timely manner, for citizen volunteers for the City <br />Council to consider in filling vacancies on the various commissions. <br />
